Vintage 1969 Wilson Football Helmet Custom Texas Longhorns National Championship

Description: For your consideration is this rare original and vintage WIlson football helmet from the late 1960s with a complete set of padding. This beauty is a true one of a kind and has been customized to represent the helmet worn by some of the Texas players at that time. Helmet comes with iconic Longhorns steer head decals placed appropriately low above the ear hole with appropriate burnt orange football with “100” celebrating 100 years of college football placed above! The Longhorns only wore the “100” decals for their televised games that year against California, Oklahoma, and of course their showdown in the “Game of the Century “ in Fayetteville against their rivals, the Arkansas Razorbacks! These decals are exact replicas of the originals. Notice the detail, including the laces on the football! You won’t find another helmet like this one in the market today. Please see photos for reference and not part of the auction. Also, please note we can add whatever numbers to the rear of the helmet you would like! Both Texas and Arkansas entered their final game of the regular season undefeated, and ranked nationally #1 and #2 respectively. In front of the nationally televised audience and Present Nixon, the Razorbacks led 14-0 entering the final period, but the Longhorns rallied behind James “Slick” Street to score the final 15 points to secure the one point victory. Please note: we are not claiming this helmet was issued or worn by the Longhorns. This amazing helmet has been painted with a fresh coat of paint, and includes an original MacGregor 2-bar facemask with original MacGregor Nose bar ($90 value for just the mask setup) properly attached exactly as many Longhorns players wore during that time. See photos for reference only and not included in the auction. To round out the package we have included #42 in correct color, size, and font, and placed appropriately on rear of helmet. As many folks are aware, the Longhorns are one of the teams which used Wilson helmets during this period of the late 1960s- early 1970s. PLEASE READ- This is truly a custom one of a kind helmet and was built to represent a game worn helmet of the team shown. Please understand what you are buying. If you want a perfectly pristine brand new looking helmet which costs $1500-$2000 this is not the helmet for you. However, if you want an affordable vintage helmet which will display nicely, this is your helmet! If you use buy it now we can also add whatever number you want to the rear of the helmet in correct size and font for the team! This helmet was built by lightly sanding the outside and cleaning the inside before painting the outside of the shell. It has flaws just like the helmets worn during the 1960s, but will display nicely. These were built to put on the shelf or mantle and enjoy discussions about the golden era of football! This is a nice size 6 7/8 helmet. Please see photos for condition. The padding is still nice and pliable and by itself is worth the asking price. Many of our helmets are vintage from the 1960's and 1970's. All of our helmets are for display purposes only! They are not to be used or worn for competitive play.
