Description: Robin is the alias of several superheroes appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character originally served as a junior counterpart and the sidekick to the superhero Batman. As a team, Batman and Robin have commonly been referred to as the Caped Crusaders and the Dynamic Duo. The character's first incarnation, Dick Grayson, debuted in Detective Comics #38 (April 1940). Conceived as a way to attract young readership, Robin garnered overwhelmingly positive critical reception, doubling the sales of the Batman titles. In the comics, Dick Grayson was an 8-year-old acrobat and the youngest of a family act called the "Flying Graysons". A gangster named Boss Zucco had been extorting money from the circus and killed Grayson's parents, John and Mary, by sabotaging their trapeze equipment as a warning against defiance. Batman investigated the crime and, as his alter ego billionaire Bruce Wayne, had Dick put under his custody as a legal ward. Together they investigated Zucco and collected the evidence needed to bring him to justice. From his debut appearance in 1940 through 1969, Robin was known as the Boy Wonder. Batman creates a costume for Dick, consisting of a red tunic, yellow cape, green gloves, green boots, green spandex briefs, and a utility belt. Robin continued his career as the Teen Wonder, from 1970 into the early 1980s. Mego began their World’s Greatest Super Hero line in 1972, and it continued until 1980. Over that time, 33 different characters were made into action figures, or 37 if you count the four Secret ID figures. During its run, Mego also released several incredible vehicles and accessories, along with three amazing large scale playsets. A line of 12 Inch figures were released as well, to include figures based on the Superman Movie and the Wonder Woman Television Series. The World’s Greatest Super Heroes line was the flagship brand for Mego, and one of the most successful selling action figure lines of the decade. The original versions of Robin were boxed and has a removable mask. In 1973, Mego changed their packaging to an open window box version, so buyers could actually see the figure inside. The early versions still featured the removable mask, but beginning with the 1974 releases, Mego changed to a new painted on version of the mask. In 1976, Mego switched from their regular box packaging to a new carded format for their lineup. This carded version would remain in production until the line came to an end in 1980. There were no variations from this open box to the carded versions. The original Robin action figure came with his cloth tunic and emblem on it, along with his shorts, belt, cape, shoes and gloves. This offering is a Mego Robin Action Figure, manufactured in 1971. As can be seen in the photo, this Robin is of the painted mask variety. I remember my parents buying me this in the 1970's, as Robin was my favorite DC Comic Character. This action figure came carded vice boxed and is almost complete. As can be seen in the photo, the signature "R" on the tunic is missing, as well as the oven mitt gloves (I really didn't like those to begin with). You can also see in the photo that the cape has some fraying on the end. All parts included in the offering are OEM Mego, no 3D printed or reproduction parts are included. Action figure shows signs of wear, but is in good shape for being over 50 years old. This is a great example of an early 1970's Mego Robin Action Figure. I am the original owner of this product.
