Description: This is a handmade candle house made by Jan Richardson in 1981. Her biography says she was living in Maryland at that time (she has now settled in St. Peterburg, Florida). The roof on the house is removable and says underneath it... 1981KEEPTRYST#24 of 50Windy Meadows Pottery Jan Richardson & KHKnoxville, MD The last line is difficult to read. But from other examples of her work we know Jan Richardson lived in Knoxville, Maryland. Paperwork included. See photos. This magnificent piece of pottery is in Excellent USED Vintage Condition. The previous owner used it as intended as a candle house as there is some residue soot as seen in the photos. Also, there is a crack in the facing above the front window, as seen in the second to last photo. Either it has been glued perfectly or it has not actually ever broken, just cracked. This is a rare early example of Jan Richardson's work. She began her studio in 1977 and this particular home was hand built in 1981 by Jan Richardson and a second artist (as all her works other than those number 1 of the series, were) with the initials K. H., who was apprentice Kay Hardy. All Jan's homes, cottages, and inns are hand built, not using molds. This model is not to be confused with the much smaller Windy Meadows Keep Tryst Inn of 1987. ***Please see all photos for more details and relative size.
