Description: Up for auction is a vintage magazine which provides a popular approach to historical and current events. It was part of a subscription mailing I directly received. Gently read and carefully stored between reading sessions. Note the mailing label is still affixed to the front cover. Because it was in the mail, the front and back covers do show some wear and the ink used on the cover was not high quality so there is some light smudging from being hand held while reading. The magazine is the August - September 1990 issue of MEMORIES "The Magazine of Then and Now". The cover of this issue features Mary Tyler Moore, Ted Williams, Nguyen Cao Ky, Fred Astaire, and the devastation of Watts. Note the photos that show the table of contents for the magazine. "The Magazine of Then and Now". Magazine editor Carey Winfrey wrote the following in the June/July 1990 issue about how the magazine went about choosing and assigning its stories: "In figuring out the best way to make a magazine about the past lively, interesting and relevant - not to mention unsentimental - we long ago came up with some guidelines. We decided, first, to pluck only he plumpest fruit from the tree; that is, to go for stories that still matter, that still resonate. Second, to find the ablest people to tell them, people without axes to grind. And third, to give anniversaries a major role in our story selection.” The magazine measures about 6 inches wide and 11 inches tall. The magazine's front and back covers and contents are tight, in very nice condition, with no internal markings. In addition to the outstanding text, there are plenty of illustrations (both color and black and white) . . . even the vintage advertising bits are fun to read!
