Description: For sale is a third edition of Fifty-Two Stories of the British Army, edited by Alfred H. Miles. No date is given for this edition. The book is a hardcover, 8" x 5.5", published by Hutchinson & Co, Paternoster Row. The book has 457 pages, and includes 5 illustrations, all of which are intact and included. There are an additional two pages of a list of other titles by this publisher. Although there is no date given for the book, the latest entry includes a note that 1890 a statue was erected to General Gordon, so the book was clearly published after that. The book is about 1.75" thick, which allows for a nice, gilded illustration of the British soldier on the spine of the book. This book looks very good on a bookshelf!However, the book is in barely acceptable condition. The pages are lightly tanned and there are some bumped corners and edge wear, especially at the top of the spine, see images. There are no marks or writing in the book, although there are some dirty smudges throughout, nothing is too bad. There is no whiff of bad storage or no bug damage. However, this is a book that has been read and re-read by many people over the years. The binding has been taxed, and is showing the most damage at the back of the book, where the hinges have separated and the guts of the book are visible, see images. The back cover also shows a bad stain that has discolored the fabric on the back cover and gone through to the endpaper inside. However, the water damage and rippling goes no further than that back endpaper. A well-used book with plenty of life left in it. Please feel free to ask any additional questions.
