Description: Super Victorian suit. Bodice looks like it was barely worn. Skirt has a little fade on side and on waist band towards back. Skirt also has a small hole on lower side skirt see photo. Bodice is too small on my dress form so looks a bit goofy pinned on. Bodice hooks up front off to side and onto back of neck, Strong boning. Wonderful suit that is ready to be worn, or displayed. Heavier suit for colder weather. Gown came from the estate of Martha Maxwell. Martha was an American naturalist, taxidermist and artist, she was a founder of modern taxidermy . Her displays are said to have influenced major figures in taxidermy history who entered the field later, such as William Temple Hornaday and Carl Akeley ( Father of modern taxidermy) Martha was born in 1831 in Pennsylvania. Among her many accomplishments, she is credited with being the first Woman Field Naturalist to obtain and prepare her own specimens. Martha was inducted into the Colorado Woman’s Hall of Fame in 1985.
