Information from Steph Uiterwaal Steph Uiterwaal (1889-1960) or in full Stephanus Albertus Uiterwaal and sometimes also Stef Uiterwaal is known to many collectors as the designer of the Glass Madonnas, executed by Glasfabriek Leerdam. However, Steph Uiterwaal started out as a sculptor, primarily making sculptures for churches and homes. He experimented a lot with this and went in the direction of the stylized figures of Cubism. Parishioners did not always appreciate this, although it did attract the attention of Leerdam. Steph Uiterwaal designed several statues for them.
