Vintage Arthur Pepper (ART) Large Hermes (Mercury) Medallion Necklace

Description: This necklace is part of a collection of mythology-themed jewelry that ART produced in the mid-20th century. This necklace showcases two-tone metal, antiqued goldtone and silvertone, and beautifully etched metalwork. Hermes is within a large antiqued silvertone medallion about 2" x 1 1/2". The god is embossed in high relief, with 3-D rendering especially around the winged helmet area. The helmet juts out the most along the ear area, where there is a flower accent attached to the base of the wing portion. The rest of the helmet is softly rounded, with leaf motifs. A row of scrolls runs from the front portion to the base of the helmet. The god's face is youthful and looks serene. He has long, wavy hair. On the top portion of his body is visible, and it looks like he's wearing an armor, and may even depict a top side of a shield. Hermes is set on a backdrop of fine radiating rays, and a thin frame with acanthus leaves at the top. The silver medallion is framed by an exquisite gilded open metalwork floral pattern. The beautiful open metalwork design continues to the back of the pendant. The back is so pretty it could pass for a front design, except the logo "ART" is written across the top portion. The medallion and frame hang from an ornate golden arch. In all the pendant, frame and bail is a big 3 1/4" x 2 1/4". The pendant is permanently suspended from a 25" long thick gilt chain which has a hook clasp on one end and a ball drop on the other. Our Hermes medallion necklace is in excellent condition. Both the metal colors are in excellent condition, with little visible wear. Everything's rich in hue and shiny. Please review photos as they are part of my listing description.
