Description: Large Vintage Irish Belleek 4 Strand Porcelain Basket with Cover All the clues on this wonderful piece likely point to a date that falls between 1921 and 1954 due to the 4 strand construction of the Bottom as opposed to the 3 strand used in prior years. Also, the Maker's Mark ribbon/pad Reads: BELLEEK CO FERMANAGH IRELAND and DOES NOT contain an "R" (registered trademark) which was introduced in 1955 according to research. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks other than shrinkage of the porcelain material during it's original kiln firing. The Flowers and other elements are all in excellent condition overall, although three of the tiny '3 leaf clovers' are missing one leaf/petal, leaving them each with 2 leaves intact. One of these clovers can be found on the Basket's Rim, and two others on the Lid. The basket is in completely original condition with absolutely no additions, alterations, or repairs. This piece was purchased at auction in 1992. Not often does one find a Belleek basket of this age in such beautiful condition--a rare find! The design features are a result of the work of William Henshall who brought his talents of Basket and Flower making to Belleek in the 1860's. Elegant and highly collectible, these baskets are known for their intricate weaving and delicate floral design captured in fine porcelain.
