Description: -Here is a beautiful small blue opaline glass jar.-The rim, if it is faithful to much ormolu opaline glass, is gold-plated brass.-The base of the piece (the underside) has been ground and polished.-Height is 2 inches.-Diameter is 2 inches. -I've researched this piece and, while I cannot say anything definite, I will share what I strongly suspect about it: I believe that this piece may be part of a vanity set (for holding implements, cotton balls, etc.) or, it may be part of a smoking set (for holding matches). I have seen both smoking and vanity sets online in the same style, but they have not included this type of piece.I have found a desk set that includes a quite similar piece identified as a pencil/pen holder. However, it is just a bit taller than this piece--maybe 3 inches as opposed to the 2 inch height of this piece.Much of what I've found online originated from France or Italy. I think that this piece is from one of these places also--but I don't know which one. My estimation is that this is a mid-century piece. I have seen similar pieces with dates on them that range widely--all across the 19th and 20th centuries. The shape and color of this piece are fairly timeless. I thought that the style of the rim would help me date the piece, but pieces with similar rims have been placed in a variety of eras. I get a mixed Continental/Hollywood Regency vibe from the piece.-Condition: This piece is in excellent used, vintage condition. I seen nothing amiss with it. The top of the rim has the tiniest bit of shelf wear on it--but just from literally sitting around for decades.
