Description: THIS IS A BROCHURE ON THE GEORGE F. FERRIS MOBILE SELF-ELEVATING DRILLING PLATFORM. NOT SURE OF A DATE BUT THE LATEST DATE MENTIONED IS 1965. THE FERRIS WAS FINISHED IN1958. HERE IS AN INTERESTING NOTE ON THE VESSEL: Back in 1971, while waiting on standby in southern California, the oil rig had a starring role in the James Bond movie “Diamonds Are Forever,” as the offshore lair of an international crime syndicate. But not even Agent 007 could have devised a finish for the Ferris as resounding as the one it met that gray Wednesday in Kachemak Bay (Alaska). The Ferris turned out to be stuck in the mud. Not only that, the realization that it was stuck came too late. The barge had been jacked down at low water, and the incoming tide meant to pop the legs free put so much strain on the jacks that they would probably have cracked again had they not just been strengthened. As it was, the jacks snapped two of the legs, locking the barge into a position that was partially submerged at high tide. With the crew abandoning the swamped ship, and a sheen of diesel oil on Kachemak Bay. WHEN IT WAS BUILT IT WAS THE LARGEST OFF SHORE DRILL IN THE WORLD. IT WAS EVENTUALLY RAISED AND REBUILT AND FINALLY SCRAPPED IN 2017. THIS IS A SINGLE PAGE MEASURING 11" X 17" FOLDED TO FORM FOUR PAGES. INSIDE IT HAS THE GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS AND DRILLING EQUIPMENT. AT THE BOTTOM ALONG THE SEAM THERE IS A SMALL SPLIT, SOME WEAR FROM HANDLING AND WHAT LOOKS TO BE COFFEE STAINS ON IT.
