Vintage Canada "Wolf Original" Sculpture -- Owl Pair READ

Description: There once was an adventurous Alaskan lady who was a real globetrotter & although her real soft spot was Norway (if you like all things Norwegian, see our Norway listings) she made a point to reach many varied points on the globe. At all of these places, she did what she did best -- shop. Here we have one of her many trophies from power shopping in Canada: a "Wolf Original" sculpture depicting two adorable owls, one larger, one smaller. Contrary to most of the listings out there on the internet, Wolf Originals were NOT hand carved, nor were they created by members of the indigenous peoples of Canada, nor are they made from soapstone. Instead, a Wolf Original has this to say about itself, if you happen to have an original tag: "Edmund Wolf has studied and sculpted a full range of North American wildlife. Every sculpture is precisely reproduced in a composition of stone and marble and then hand finished, resulting in the handsome figurines known as Wolf Sculptures. Only pieces having the marking 'WE' are original Wolf Sculptures. To maintain the beauty of this stonework (once a year) use a light coat of fine furniture paste wax." We think it's important to be honest here, so you can be assured that these little cuties are indeed handmade (as much as it takes to cast & buff them), vintage, from Canada & a "Wolf Original." But Wolf Originals were actually produced by combining pulverized rock dust with a kind of resin which is poured into a mold, not crafted in the manner in which they seemed to have been marketed. They also have their own piece of history in that Wolf (along with several other similar companies like Boma, Thorn & Aardvark) created much distress during their time on the market (approx. 1970s-80s), being confused by tourists for authentic Native art & thus adversely impacting the livelihoods of actual indigenous Canadian artists. All this does not diminish the charm or beauty of this design (Mr. Wolf was undeniably talented) or detract from the waxy, gentle warmth of the figure in the hand. To this day these figures are highly desirable, selling regularly all over the web-o-sphere. The sculpture is about 4 inches wide & 3 inches tall.
