Before refrigerators were invented, homes and businesses would receive a delivery of ice starting in the Spring. Tongs were a key piece of equipment used by the ice man. The ice man used the tongs to lift and carry ice from the wagon or truck to the customer. This vintage piece opens and closes easily and has a patina of light rust and stains. Measures approximately 15 1/2 inches long and weighs about 4 pounds.
