VINTAGE CERAMIC BUST SCULPTURE w/ WOODEN BASE BY CALIFORNIA ARTIST JOHN RAWLINS

Description: Modernist Vintage Face / Bust Sculpture Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage tabletop sculpture by the California artist, John Duarte Rawlins. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This ceramic sculpture has a black finish, and it is affixed to a wooden plinth. This piece is beautifully sculpted. It measures approximately 12 1/4 inches tall by 14 3/8 inches long by 8 1/4 inches wide. Unpacked, it weighs 13 pounds. This would be a fine addition to a collection of American art. Identification This unmarked, vintage sculpture is by John Duarte Rawlins (1939 - 2008). It was purchased with several circa 1970s signed Rawlins pieces. Per the artist's Legacy obituary, Rawlins was born in Pearl City, Hawaii in 1939. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He lived in Manteca, California for nineteen years, where he was active in the local art scene while working professionally as an electrician. Rawlins was a member of the Manteca Artist Guild and the Manteca Art Center; an award-winning artist, he exhibited his wood and ceramic sculptures at art shows within the San Joaquin Valley. After he moved to Lockeford, California, he joined the Lodi Art Center. Rawlins passed away in 2008. Condition This piece looks very good overall with no chips or post-production cracks. It has light wear. As made, there are some fine firing fissures/hairlines, in the lower portion of the bust.
