Description: Here is a special offering of a vintage knife made by a fantastic American of French decent named Cleston SINYARD, a rare Southern Gentleman from Elberta AL. A very large man with a gentle manor and a nack for forge welding Stainless Steel & wrought iron & anything else he wanted to put in there. Wild Bill Caldwell is quoted as saying “CLESTON COULD FORGE WELD TWO STICKS TOGETHER!” Here is a fine Damascus Bowie size knife with a wharncliffe style blade know as a SAX….essentially a dagger with the curved edge dull . A very sturdy survival hunter. The blade has a concave cross section where the blade tapers from thick (curved) spine towards the edge in a modified‘V’ grind known as a hollow grind. This blade shape and cross section really reduces the weight of the blade and knife without sacrificing strength and rigidity. Blade specs: Shy of 1/4 inch across spine. Nearly a 7 inch blade x 1.25” wide. A thick small oval steel half guard. The handle is comfortable and secure in hand and easy to index. NO pins! Overall just under 11.5 inches long. 12.5 inches in dark brown leather sheath with rivets. Solid pommel and hidden tang . The blade shows much pattern only with strong light. Otherwise the blade is non reflective. Generally a tight random pattern showing lots of activity in the hollow grind above the ever sharp edge. The blade doesn’t reflect light and its general appearance is dark with layers running throughout and some pool and eye patterning. Since it’s not bright I tried to use strong light to show the hi-layer count random damascus near the edge. Known for his ability to forge weld anything,CLESTON strongly believed in forging to shape and packing the edges. That, plus a nack for differential heat treating the composite blades made him a standout in the industry. His unique knives, beautiful, functional and yet easily utilitarian make them a collector favorite. This one reflects all those attributes… but doesn’t reflect light. Mr. SINYARD stopped making knives about 20 years ago and passed about 10 years ago. He was a definitely ‘ONE OF A KIND’ and as I are his knives. Here is your opportunity to capture a RARE sweet SINYARD Damascus Bowie by a renowned yet seldom offered maker. Priority shipping with insurance and tracking
