Vintage D. Peres Magnetic Cutlery Pocket Knife, Early 1900's Solingen Germany

Description: Vintage D. Peres Magnetic Cutlery Pocket Knife, Early 1900's Solingen Germany Early 1900's D. Peres two blade pocket knife made in Solingen Germany. Peres was established in 1792 and in 1805 it became the first cutlery firm to make pen knives in Solingen. Magnetic Cutlery Co of 1013 Arch St in Philadelphia, owned by Otto Maussner, became its sole US import agent in 1900 through roughly 1932. The sales trademark "barrel brand" was later used on Early SA, NSKK, and HJ knives. This is a fairly scarce model in that the vast majority of D Peres pocket knives were made of aluminum and were stamped with finely detailed designs like cars, animals, advertising and the like; even a President Roosevelt knife was made. In the early 1900's aluminum was a new material to work with for making such detailed pieces, and it was all the rage. More traditional handles like this one were much less common because they weren't as flashy and eye catching, thus they are now much harder to come by. The handle scales show some very light marks on one side, otherwise very nice. No chips, cracks or issues. Scales are tight and solid. Both blades show light chips to the edges. The small blade measures 1 1/4" and shows the Beer Barrel logo on the ricasso. The main blade is 1 1/2" in length and has the logo stamped midway on the blade. The ricasso is stamped D Peres Soligen on one side and Magnetic Cutlery Co Inc on the other (the word magnetic is very light). 2 3/4" closed.
