Vintage Early 1960's Waltham Bathyscaphe w/Tropical Dial,All SS Case,Tropic Band

Description: ***********Given that the movement has likely not been serviced in several decades a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended.***********This seldom seen vintage early 1960's Waltham Bathyscaphe has an originally black "SWISS" only signed dial that has aged naturally over time to a tropical brownish hue. In my humble opinion it couldn't be more pleasing. The original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a warm, toasted buttermilk hue. The black acrylic bezel, which shows wear and does not rotate likely due to gunk buildup underneath, presents nicely with the butterscotch inverted lume triangle complementing the dial and patina beautifully. As clearly seen in the pictures, the crystal ring shows oxidation. This can likely be largely/entirely removed during a service. The all stainless steel case shows moderate wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL SWISS MADE 100% WATERPROOF INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC" with "WALTHAM" stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back, which shows pitting around the outer edges, is stamped "WALTHAM WATCH CO." followed by "SWISS." The crystal, which I believe is original, shows wear that in person is nearly visually imperceptible. The unadjusted 17 jewels Swiss "WALTHAM WATCH Co" stamped AS 1686 manual wind movement is clean. After winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown 37 full revolutions the movement kept accurate time over an approximate 36 hour power reserve period. The crown winds buttery smooth. Given that the movement has likely not been serviced in several decades (there is one watchmaker service marking from an unknown date on the inside of the case back) a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 34 mm excluding the crown, approximately 37 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11 mm. This watch comes on a period correct one keeper 19 mm curved lug ends Tropic band w/flared buckle that is in lightly used, fully pliable condition. The long end measures approximately 122 mm while the short end measures approximately 83 mm excluding the buckle. Given that the movement has likely not been serviced in several decades a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended.
