Description: EMMONS HOME FASHIONS of Newark, NJ was founded in 1948 by Charles H. Stuart, who named the company after his wife, Caroline Emmons and later became Emmons Jewelry Inc. Stuart also started Sarah Coventry in 1949, the name of a granddaughter.Emmons Jewelry was the forerunner of Sarah Coventry and the mark for both companies was first used in1949. Emmons jewelry was sold only at home parties. In the later 1950's Emmons also began carrying Sarah Coventry jewelry, but booking the parties under the Emmons name. Emmons went out of business, due to bankruptcy, in 1981. The company was sold in 1984.Jewelry marked Emmons is not easy to find, but is of good quality. The home party plan for Sarah Coventry jewelry was discontinued in the fall of 1984 and all inventory, equipment & facilities were sold.Emmons mark of Emmons Jewelers, Inc. Newark, NY was first used March, 1949; the mark was 'Emmons' with a © above the name. The copyright mark was also used to the left of the Emmons name after 1955 and even older pieces were marked with a CE or Caroline Emmons under a crown.Sarah Coventry, Inc. of Newark, NY first used their mark May, 1949. There were several marks; "Sarah Coventry","SC", "Sarah Cov", "SAC", "Coventry","Sarah" in a Diamond, and there may be others.This makes the earlySarah Coventry jewelry quite collectible and Emmons jewelry fairly uncommon.
