Description: Vintage Carl Erickson Art Glass Pipe Ashtray Created between 1943 & early 1960 (The studio was closed in the summer of 1960) - Ohio USA Beautiful piece of studio art glass consisting of a clear controlled bubble (bullicante) sphere (with a flat top) on top of a concaved round base plate of ombre' glass with a darker amethyst edge. I say amethyst...it's not really purple and not really red...it's like a brownish plum that changes in different light. The last photos show the piece under black light. The sphere and the base plate appear to be as one...an amazing feat! Measures approximately 9.25" diameter. The sphere measures 3" diameter - 4" tall - weighs a little over 3 lb. before protective packing Other than a few minor scuffs on the bottom the piece is in excellent condition From my personal collection. I've had this piece since the 1980's. My aunt gave it to me from her collection. I'm not sure of the age, but I would think it's from the 1950s to early 60s. It's a fine artisan piece.
