Description: You are bidding on a vintage “G. Lachaise Honeybee Alva Museum Replica Hood Ornament “. A mid-century replica of a radiator cap hood ornament created by sculptor Gaston Lachaise (1882-1935). The original was housed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Collectible reproductions, such as this one, were sold in the 1960-70s by Alva Museum Replicas. This exact piece was purchased by a family member in 1973. The beautiful golden flying honeybee sits on a polished marble plinth. The statue stands approximately 5- 1/4" tall and weighs almost two pounds. At the farthest point, it is 4- 7/8" wide. The base measures approximately 2" square. The original Alva Museum Replica sticker is still attached ti the bottom of the base. The bee sculpture is very art nouveau in style -- perhaps a nod by the artist to his roots. Lachaise began his artistic career as a designer of Art Nouveau decorative objects for René Lalique. Age wear and some finish loss as shown in the photos but still displays nicely.
