Description: Vintage Alice Blue Gown by Arthur Garratt. Estimated date of creation: 1940s Available for those who enjoy vintage art and/or history (and excited to have both in one piece!) is this vintage ornately framed lithograph of Arthur Paine Garratt's painting of Theodore Roosevelt's daughter, Alice Roosevelt Longworth. The backstory: Alice became an inspiration of the arts as is evidenced by the significance of the original painting Alice Blue Gown. Favoring a blue azure tinted dress, the lady and her dress would spur musicals and songs and art. As attention to the color rose, the dress color would later be named "Alice Blue" after Alice. The rarity of this is that there are two numberings- 1) a typed number attached "M/ 940" by Yairing or Gairing of Chicago, and the 7X9 lithograph stamp of D609 from Reinthal & Newman, N.Y. who used a high-quality level of lithograph prints in an effort to present the beauty of the original artwork. So much so, that some famed artists gave Reinthal & Newman their approval to make lithographs of their work. The lithograph features blue and gold gilt on an arched wood frame enhanced with raised details. Gesso Oil and was sold out of Chicago, Illinois. (See label). There are a few small chips in the frame plaster.(see photos) Age notes: Most likely 1940s. Hardware on back may be original. Framed picture Measures: 10"x15" (Lithograph is 7" X 9") Some chips in plaster.
