Description: VINTAGE 1960 MODERNIST BROOCH BY HOGAN-BOLAS United States, c.1960, simply designed bar brooch in gilt brass bezel-set at each end with a Carnelian cabochon, signed "HOGAN-BOLAS," approx. 2-1/4 x 1/4 in., secure safety catch, nice condition.HOGAN-BOLAS - is the mark of the design team Robert Hogan and Deborah Bolas, who met at the Rhode Island School of Design in the 1940's and began a jewelry design company at that time. They are known for their simple modern copper designs and striking colorful enamel work that is unlike any designers of the time. This piece is unusual as it was done on brass instead of copper or sterling silver. (Some items are purposely not polished to retain aged finish and left to buyer's discretion.)
