Description: I am a retired ObGyn and medical historian who has collected books and instruments for over 40 years. Age and downsizing have prompted me to pass along my items to younger collectors with the space to display them. As time permits, I will be listing approximately 300 books and over 100 instruments on eBay. This is a rare Guttman vaginal speculum. I have never seen it used in my GYN experience in Canada and the USA. The blade is shorter, and it opens much more widely than more common instruments. Like the Graves, it comes apart for cleaning, and the lower blade can be used as a hand-held retractor. The lower blade has a groove on the bottom that helps prevent it from slipping out. This model shows mild wear, but no missing plating. It is stamped SKLAR CHROME. Germany. U.S. Patent 1669395. There is a shallow illegible ID marking on the back of the lower blade.
