Description: Vintage Hecho en Mexico Copper & coin silver wide cuff bracelet 6 1/4" Age unknown, but Coin silver was used in Mexican jewelry during the colonial period and until the 1930s: Colonial period: Silver became more important in Mexico after the 17th century when trade with Asia began. Indigenous jewelry often used silver coins for decoration. The copper has coin silver rope, floral and vine applied metal to the top as well as a slender band of coin silver around the borders of the top and the bottom. The bracelet is 2 inches wide and tapers to 1 1/4 inches in the back. The copper looks to have some light coating of maybe some type of enamel. One of the flowers has a copper center and there is a little "ding" in the center. It looks like it may be a part of the design according the positioning, but I am not sure , so I wanted to mention it. The inside of the bracelet copper is hammered from behind resulting in a pattern of dimpled marks on the front, part of the design.. The bracelet has a light stamp that says Hecho en Mexico. There are also a couple of what look like round stamped designs that may be an eagle mark or something. I believe this may be an older Taxco piece. I can't decipher it. This is a gorgeous piece, very old and in good condition. 56 grams
