Hemingray was a global manufacturer of glass insulators in the early 20th century. Insulators were used in operating the telegraph, telephone and electric lines. They insulated the wires, preventing them from degrading, especially in fog or rain. They were seen mounted on wooden pins on the crossarms of telephone poles. The last Hemingray insulators were made in 1967.Today, the industrial look of vintage glass insulators makes them perfect for upcycling projects. They are often used for lights, candle holders, planters, or other decorations.
