Description: Offered here is a vintage Joseph Horne's charge plate. As there is no zip code number on the plate, it pre-dates 1961 and is likely from the 1940's - 1950's. Horne's was founded in 1849 and was one of the oldest department stores in the U.S. They were based in Western Pennsylvania and their flagship store still stands at the corner of Penn Avenue and Stanwix Street in downtown Pittsburgh where the annual tradition of lighting their six story electric Christmas tree continues to this day. In the early 1900's they catered primarily to the "carriage trade" and that reputation stayed with them as they were always considered to be "pricier" than their local competitors - Kaufmann's and Gimbels. They ceased operations in 1994 after being absorbed by Lazarus.
