Description: Vintage Lalaounis 18 Karat Gold Hercules Knot Brooch. Shipped with USPS First Class. Measures 2.5 inches . Weighs 13.2 grams. Hallmarked and in original presentation box. A round woven 18K gold chain fashioned into a Hercules knot from the collection by Atheneum jeweler Ilias Lalaounis. The ancient Hercules knot is a wedding symbol of binding love and strength and also symbolizes the fertility of Hercules. This myth is believed to be the origin of the phrase “tying the knot” in the context of marriage. Today Lalaounis has designated the Hercules knot a symbol of Good Luck in the year 2021 to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence. Ilias Lalaounis (1920-2013) is the only jeweler ever inducted into the prestigious Academies des Beaux-Arts. His creations are less fashion adornment and more works of art. The brooch is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use with no visible signs of wear.
