Description: This is an interesting mystery piece. The patent label on the base refers to a swivel fountain pen gizmo in the late 1820’s. Consists of two base marble pieces then two layers of bakelite with a wood dowel coming up out of the middle. The dowel holds a metal rod which holds upright the column, bakelite and carved wood flower on the tip top. The column rests alright now but is not secure. I think I would glue it to the bakelite. My only other guess is it could have been a work in progress eventually being a lamp. It is quite striking the way it is now. Towards last photos I show the only flaw on this. A small chip at base of column. An interesting piece of art if nothing else. Fantastic materials as well. 11” tall with a base 4” each side.
