Description: From the Lane factory located in a small town in central Virginia, these boxes were widely distributed across the US and Canada, given away to women by countless different furniture stores as promotional high school graduation gifts. Each box shows different color, patterning, and grain, and so all were beautiful and each was truly unique. This one has held up well to advancing time. Note, however, that this box carries no key, exhibits a missing felt foot and some alligatoring to its finish (see photos), and bears a small crack across the bottom. The small red marks inside the box appear to have been made by crayon or lipstick. At the same time, this box is clean and without oily stains or offensive odors. Bottom staple shows where label and/or key envelope had been attached. Note that the lockset screws inside, and that the red color seen on the hinges is not rust, but comes from the tinted finish that Lane applied.
