My traditional boots are not at all garish because my focus was on elegant high quality. I used them only socially and primarily for dancing on hardwood floors. These boots have never been resoled. These boots were made in the 1980s. These boots are 14" high. These have what is now called a "Western Heel". We used to call it a 'Walking Heel' to differentiate it from a 'Riding Heel' (the real Cowboy boot!). It would cost hundreds of dollars for a boot of this quality today. Then you are considering a vintage leather boot, you must first understand there is a big difference in the quality of the leather between then and now ... According to some sources, the quality of leather tanning was higher 40 years ago than today, because the raw materials were better, and the tanneries were able to use more time and less strict regulations to produce leather. However, this may also mean that the leather tanning process was more harmful to the environment and the health of the workers, as it involved the use of toxic chemicals, animal waste, and large amounts of water. Regulations have brought the negative's more under control but that has resulted, in most cases, to a more inferior product today compare with 40 years ago.
