Description: This is a whimsical and unusual Vintage Modern Biblical Outsider Folk Art Oil Painting on Artist Board, by esteemed 20th century Haitian Outsider artist, Yves Jean-Pierre (b. 1942.) This artwork depicts an idyllic and fantastical depiction of the Garden of Eden, from the Biblical Book of Genesis. Giraffes, elephants, monkeys, various birds, and big cats all share the tropical landscape. A mischievous-looking Adam is hunched over under a giraffe, while Eve sits on the jungle floor, with her back turned to the viewer. Tall fruit bearing trees command the top and central areas of the image, and odd, vaguely human looking tigers and lions peer outward at the viewer. Signed: "Y. Jn. Pierre" in the lower left corner. This artwork likely dates to the late 1960's - 1970's and is a very early original painting by this artist. Approximately 25 x 31 1/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 24 x 30 inches. Good condition for age, with some mild scuffing and edge wear to the original period vintage wood frame. Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. This is the earliest artwork by Jean-Pierre to ever be offered for sale since the invention of the Internet and depicts one of his most popular and collected subjects.
