Description: The clip has the imprint "Germany". I purchased this pen recently from a gentleman from Croatia. I purchased the pen because I am trying to complete my vintage MB149 set and needed a 1960s 149 with the feed design of this pen. At the completion of my purchase, I asked the seller if he had any information about the pen’s past ownership that he can share with me as I always appreciate knowing such information (we are, after all, only temporary caretakers of these little treasures!). He informed me that he purchased the pen from the son of a Croatian politician. I thanked him and left it at that. However, when I received the pen, I wanted to see if I can learn some more about the pen’s history and asked again if the seller can tell me who the politician was that he said before this pen belonged to. He then told the politician’s name was Vlatko Pavletić. I then researched this person from simple Internet searches and learned that he had a fascinating life. Vlatko was not only a mere politician but a far more interesting and fascinating personality! He was a political prisoner, minister of education, essayist, speaker of congress, and even President for a short while. Once I learned this, I realized that I will do the pen a great disservice if I kept to my original intention and instead believed that it really needs to be enjoyed in ‘its own spotlight’ within a serious pen collection. Thus, I am offering the pen for sale here. I recommend the new owner to house the pen in a quality display case and display along with a framed picture and brief bio of Mr. Pavletić. I am sure it will make for interesting conversation during social gatherings! The weight of the pen without ink is 25.15 grams and this is in line with friction fit pistons of the 1960s (the lightest MB 149 ever made). As you can see from the pictures, the pen is in overall excellent condition. The only thing to note is what appears to be a minor superficial crack that I tried to take a good picture of. I tested the pen with water and it absorbs and discharges without any issues. I did not try to write with ink because I honestly don’t have any ink and I never buy my vintage pens to write with. I buy them for their artistry and sheer viewing and handling pleasure! Given the timeframe of the pen and that of when Mr. Pavletić lived, and the fact this pen was purchased recently directly from his immediate family, I believe the pen was in the possession of Vlatko for its entire life until his passing. Who knows how many essays, letters, political speeches, and even presidential addresses were penned by this pen? Now that’s a fascinating thing! I will include the pen and the envelop I received the pen in showing the country of origin as well as the customs form (the form just says 'pen').
