Description: This Auction is for an UNTESTED, Vintage, Montgomery Ward "BIG HAT" Dual Mantle, Fuel Fired Lantern, that looks Similar to a Coleman No. 228. I received this from the Original Owner, who stated that he had used it many times, over the years, with no issues. It's in Very Nice, Solid Condition for its age, showing a few Minor Scratches and Marks from Storage and Use. Nothing is broken or missing, and it is pretty much Rust and Corrosion Free. Unlike most other Lanterns I have run Across over the years, this one was has a Chrome Plated, Brass Fuel Tank. Some of the Chrome Plating has worn off, but the Tank is Solid! The original Glass is in Excellent condition, having no cracks or chips. The Hat has a few Chips in the Porcelain, but still looks great adding to Its Appeal. The Mantles that are mounted in the Lantern are Very Brittle, and probably won't make it through the Journey to Your Location! They can be replaced with Coleman #21 Mantles, found a most Hardware Stores. This has not been used for many years, and I would recommend that it be Cleaned, Serviced and that all Seals be Inspected or replaced before use. This wonderful Lantern will make a fine addition to any Vintage Lantern or Camping Equipment Collection or Display. It is being offered AS IS, and WITHOUT WARRANTY!
