Vintage Newborn Thumbelina Doll 18” Classic 1982 With MA-MA Voice Original Box

I can feel the voice box, but not sure if it works. I did not want to remove the doll from the box. I tried squeezing the belly to see if it made the ma-ma sound, but didn't hear anything. I am not sure if there is a string to pull somewhere or if it takes batteries or if the voice box does not work.
