Description: This nocturnal oil on board is a view of the Baie des Anges (Bay of Nice). The composition features the deep blue backdrop of the background set against the yellow moon with the lights on the shoreline which the artist refers to as a “necklace of luminescence”. The waters of the Bay present shimmering reflections from the moon and the shoreline. The annotation on the verso reveals the painting to have been a gift and he then mentions the subject location. He signed and dated the work- Sept 1944 but the signature is ineligible. The painting measures 9” by 14” framed and 5” by 9 ½” to sight. The paint surface is in a very good, stable condition.
