Description: Steve Perrin (1922-1987) was a Tlingit carver of the Kaagwaantaan (Eagle/Wolf) clan and a child of the Chilkoot Lukaax.adi (Raven/Sockeye) clan. Perrin was from an artistic family and was a prolific model pole maker in his lifetime. Perrin carved for the Nugget Shop of Juneau as well as the Alaska Native Arts Clearing House (ANAC) in Anchorage. This pole dates to the 1970s and is carved in yellow cedar. It measures a respectable 14.75 inches tall and is mounted on a base that is 5 inches square. The pole features a raven over a beaver with a chewing stick and is painted in red, black, yellow, and blue. The chests of the raven and beaver are knife finished to replicate the textures of adze marks on full-sized poles. Perrin rarely painted his carvings, so this is an unusual and particularly nice example of his work. The pole is in excellent vintage condition with no breaks or damage. Please see photos and message with any questions. I will be listing several model poles as well as some Tlingit baskets and other Northwest Coast and Alaska Native pieces this week, so please check my other listings. Thanks!
