Description: Vintage Oil painting Signed Arie Wachenhauser/Jewish/Girl With Red Ball/c.1962 An original oil painting on artist's board measuring 13 x 19.25 in. (33 x 49.5 cm)signed upper left Arie W and entitled on verso on exhibition label "Girl With Red Ball" and "artist: Wachenhauser" "medium: oil" in a period gilt wood frame and most likely dating to c.1962. Arie Wachenhauser (1917-1998) was a Polish-Jewish artist/painter who was born in Warsaw. In the 1930s he studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw having demonstrated at a very early age a considerable artistic talent. In 1938 he made Aliyah (immigration to Israel as a Diaspora Jew)and settled in Tel Aviv. After making Aliyah he studied art with Aharon Avni at the Midrasha, Art Teachers training College. In 1962 he joined the Israel Painters and Sculptors Association. He was also a member of the Artist Quarter Safed. Wachenhauser's art was influenced by the Paris School in its use of expressionist brushstroke technique. Most of his work was in portraiture particularly portraits of Mothers and children. "Girl With a Red Ball" is a prime example of the artist's mature style. The artist exhibited his paintings at the Katz Gallery and the Tzemerinsky Gallery in Tel-Aviv which led to exhibitions throughout Europe,The U.S. and Canada. His work has gained considerably in value in the ensuing years. Wachenhauser passed away in 1998 in Israel. Successful bidders please note: INSURANCE on all items over $100 strongly recommended.
