Description: Beautiful and eye-catching, vintage, Japanese, double-handled and lidded sugar bowl. Made in Japan, approximately during second quarter of 20th century, this wonderful piece features orange luster glaze with beautiful raised gilt scrolls and heavily gilded handles. Measures - 5”H and appx 6.25” W handle to handle. Condition: wear to gilt on the handles and the knob. Some wear to gilt on the raised scrolls. Typical use-related marks and scratches. Small scabs around the foot area, some minor wear to decorations, production related imperfections. Marked with Hotta Yu Shoten mark. The company was in operation from 1920 to 1947. The shop selling the wares was the Hotta Yu Co. The use of the word “Shoten” means “shop which sells wares fired from its own kilns“.
