Fed by a life long love of sports and being a gifted writer, Roger enjoyed a 52-year career as a sportswriter for the Ledger, covering baseball, football, hockey, basketball, the BAA marathon, schoolboy sports and golf. He was also a Golf Editor for many years. He would often chuckle at some of the labels given to him by columnists such as Mr. Golf and The Godfather of Golf.
