Description: This is from a lot of pictures taken during the early and mid 1950s by an unnamed soldier in the 3rd Armored Division of the United States Army (SPEARHEAD), Battery A. Funnily enough this was Elvis Presley’s division in the 50s too. I was unfortunately unable to identify the photographer/soldier despite some effort. At least at one point, from one inscription, the soldier who took these photos was an “acting sergeant”, “running all field supply”, under a Capt Smith, the Battery Commander. The soldier was stationed in Germany, spending time training and in field exercises particularly in Grafenwoehr. He also travelled extensively throughout Europe, with his close friends and fellow soldiers, particularly fellows named Kelly and Pat, and Karl, a German from Nuremberg who was the Major’s translator, according to one picture caption. He was particularly close to these friends! Many of the photos have detailed or humorous captions about his and their adventures. Honestly, it seemed like a pretty nice time to be in the army… This is an authentic original black-and-white photograph, not a reproduction.
