Description: Presented for your consideration, an elegant set of 6 Pillivuyt France twin bird salt cellars. Located in Mehun-sur-Yèvre, in central France is Pillivuyt France, a venerable 206 year old fine porcelain wares manufacturer. Founded by two Swiss brothers in 1818, Pillivuyt France is one of the last few porcelain manufacturers that develops its own porcelain compounds on site. Fired at extremely high kiln temperatures the resultant wares are highly resistant to mechanical and thermal shock and are very durable. A set of 6, these twin bird porcelain salt cellars are elegant additions to the well-dressed table. Modeled simplistically, the opposing birds form a vessel with their wings enmeshed and heads facing outwards. May of course be utilised as intended for salt or freshly cracked pepper or other spices. They would be lovely as egg cups as well — I can imagine them employed on the Easter table with colourful eggs nestled in them. Stamped on the bottom with “Pillivuyt France Porcelaine Depuis 1818. No. V9.” One piece possesses a different number (022) perhaps indicating a different batch or production. Each cellar possesses a small vent hole in the bottom to allow gases, moisture and air to escape whilst firing in the kiln. Preowned yet in great condition, no chips, cracks nor repairs. Approximate Measurements: 3 7/8” in width (beak to beak) 2 1/4” in width (wing to wing) Smoke and pet-free home. Will of course be carefully parceled to insure safe arrival to their new home.
