Description: Here is a set of 25 quilt blocks and pieces in the Dolly Madison Hexagonal Star pattern, #251a, as shown in the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns compiled by Barbara Brackman. Pattern is categorized as a Non-Square Hexagonal Block which was printed in the Kansas City Star dated 1937. The 14 complete hexagonal blocks are a combination of hand and machine piecing and measure approximately 14 1/2" (+ or -) from point to point with the center hexagon being about 3 1/8" finished. Fabrics are generally cotton and wovens from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The 11 partial blocks are also a combination of machine and hand stitching with fabrics being from a later time period. These do have some soiling especially the older pieces, all of the blocks are pictured. Please use the zoom feature on the photos for a better view.
