Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a rare variant of the 1950's era Shure 55 S microphone. Shure Brothers sold under license it's 55 S to only a couple different American companies and DuKane was one of them. This is a 1959 7A65 model and it comes with the rare, period cast iron desk stand made by Sarsaraprilla as seen in the pictures provided. This rarely seen variant of the Shure 55S was one of 3 companies to sell this mic. Dukane, Carl Stromberg and Bogen all sold a handful of these back in the day but the overwhelming majority were sold by Shure Brothers. It should be noted that this mic is in working condition with it's original cardioid dynamic element but the signal has been compromised. It's only about 70% strength and it lacks any bass as it should normally have but this will make for a very nice display or prop purposes if needed. This mic was originally intended for singing and broadcasting. This 7A65 has the adjustable impedance switch for low, medium and high impedance. Many of these older 55S mics barely work or don't work at all. This one was very well taken care of but again, the element has been compromised. Excellent uni-directional characteristics as well. I would rate it physically a conservative 8 + cosmetically on a scale of 1 - 10. I secure the element on these mics as they are always loose from years of use. The element will cause a ton of unwanted feedback if not secured inside so I do that with every 55S that comes my way. No issues. As you can see the satin chrome body shows extremely lite wear with virtually no corrosion, scuff marks or scratches. There are no fractures or engravings anywhere. The ribs are very nice with zero dents. The Royal Blue silk screens shows zero fading or holes. Often these old 55 mics are stained with tobacco as smoking was quite popular back in the day. You won't find any of that on this mic. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and a wide degree of tilt. The label looks pretty damn nice and you can see by the serial number that it's a 1959 model. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is a very rare desk stand from the 1950's era and perfect for just about any older vintage microphone. I have never come across this type of stand before and it reminds me very much of the Altec designs of that time. This is a Sarsaparilla Design LTD make. I don't know the model number sadly and there isn't one on the stand but it does indicate it was made in N.Y, U.S.A. The stand has a common cast iron base with an Atlas adapter and 4 inch chrome riser giving you a bit of clearance in which to mount any screw on mic or mic clip you desire. The base has original paint and it shows no discoloration, chips or scratches. There is no rust on the bottom of the base either. This is a very fine example. Total length is 5 inches high x 3 1/2 inches wide X 6 1/4 inches deep and with the mic on top it's 12 inches high. The chrome stem / riser shows zero wear or corrosion. The riser can be removed easily if you don't want that much height on this stand. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. The stand will accept just about any microphone with the exception of a few Astatic mics due to their unusual 3 pin attachment. All E.V, Shure and Turner mics will screw on however. This stand has the universal 5/8 thread. This stand is an easy 9 + on a scale of 10. If you demand rare and unusual...this stand and mic will do the trick. A great conversation piece anywhere it sits or is used in the home, studio or office. As with all my vintage microphones for sale... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
