It is powered by AC (household) current or DC (4 C cell batteries-not included). Reception is very good on both bands. Audio is loud and clean. The label of the off/on volume has wear, as can be seen in the photos. That is really the only demerit to this nice radio. All the controls - off/on, tuning and tone - work smoothly and silently. This radio has two tones - Hi or Lo - which is very nice for a portable radio of this size and price.The antenna is shiny, straight and extends/retracts perfectly. The C battery compartment is clean; no battery leakage damage. The red ribbon used to remove the batteries is present and in good condition. I've owned this for years. Good radio.
