Description: An exceptionally well executed reverse glass painted reproduction of John Speed's 1676 "New and Accurat Map", featuring double celestial hemispheres and diagrams of the system of Ptolemy, eclipses of the Sun and Moon and further embellishments. Speed's was the first English atlas map of the world. This beautiful early to mid 20th century reproduction features an engraving print applied directly to the reverse of the glass, with hand painted colour and gilding. This technique creates a fantastic depth to the atlas. A true statement piece taken from an iconic early piece of cartography. Professionally framed and glazed. Print in very good condition.
