Description: Though unsigned, I'm certain that this piece was created by Richard Bergquist. This Santo is St. Jude or San Judas Tadeo. According to the back, "San Judas Tadeo is the well known and popular apostle Thaddeus, who is the patron of lost causes, desperate cases, and impossible tasks. This is probably because of the past neglect and abuse he has endured being confused with the traitor Judas. It is not uncommon to see him invoked, or given thanks to, in the personal columns of local newspapers. Many a devotional candle is lit to petition St. Jude for Help. Saint Jude is usually represented as carrying a coin with the face of Jesus upon it, a club (the instrument of his death), and a flame coming from his head, the manifestation of great faith." Richard Bergquist is from San Simon, Arizona and is well known for this unique artwork, each one individually made and one of a kind. This particular Santo features St. Jude holding a club. He has a flame on his head and around his feet are a dog, and "I wish" paper, a bird, a scroll and a jug that says "Milagros". It measures approximately 12" tall and 3.5" wide.
