Vintage Runway 1970s Exotic Bamboo Necklace Doorknocker Pendant Napier Fujio

Description: This dramatic gold plated pendant necklace was created for Napier by highly regarded designer and metalsmith Francis Fujio, whose work has been exhibited widely, including at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Vintage from the brand’s 1970s Basic Bamboo collection, it is in very good condition. Crafted in a brushed gold tone (likely gold plated) metal, this statement piece features a large, round, double doorknocker pendant with a bamboo motif. Three short bamboo segments provide an elegantly balanced transition from the bold pendant to a strong twisted rope chain. With timeless style elements executed in generous scale, the overall effect of this design is classic yet modern and striking. The eye-catching pendant measures 3" high by 2 3/4" across. The attached chain measures 19” and is secured with a round spring clasp. Overall, the necklace weighs just over 3 ounces. The Napier signature is embossed on the back of the pendant and on all four of the chain’s end links. Despite roughly half a century of life, this piece is in very good condition. It has no chips or breaks, and the connections of the various moving elements are in good order. The finish is rich and shiny, with little if any discoloration or loss to the gold plating on the bamboo elements and moderate darkening on the chain — particularly the portion that sits behind the collar (please see photos 13-16). The chain is straight with no kinks or knots, the clasp closes tightly and securely, and the maker’s mark is crisp and clear. Occasional light surface scratching is evidence of 50 years of very gentle use.
