Description: Sleeve and shoulder insignia for "captain third rank." As these were generally made by tailors instead of a factory, there is no manufacture date on the jacket itself but the button backs are mostly 1986 dated. There are a couple small holes on the left chest, where badges were once worn. About a 42" chest, 28.5" from the collar base to the hem, and a 26.5" sleeve. Historically, the Soviet Navy was the most conservative branch of the USSR's armed forces. As such, they tended to retain older styles, like the double-breasted uniform jacket, far longer than their land- or air-based counterparts. In my opinion it's a much nicer style, reminiscent of the short-lived designs of the 1950s. -------- I am a longtime collector of Cold War military equipment.
