Description: Vintage Victorian 1889-1890 Three Piece Walking Suit. PROJECT. Please note: vintage clothing is used clothing and sold as is. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. I NO LONGER SEND OFFERS SINCE NO ONE ACCEPTS THEM. Bodice is too small to fit my smallest Victorian dress form. This fabulous three piece walking suit was found at an estate sale in Illinois in the late 1990s. Thank you Gil for saving me that chaotic day and rescuing all the vintage clothing you saved as well as me. I will always thank Gil for every piece I list. "ATTENTION", this is a PROJECT ensemble. Extremely RARE 1890s three piece walking suit, very rare to find. Usually the jackets become separated from the bodice and skirt. The original wearer was either in the process of finishing, or, readjusting the bodice to fit. This was found wrapped in a very old appliqued bed cover from the late 1840s to mid 1860s period. This will be listed at a later date. This is a three piece wool walking suit, dark brown in color, encrusted with dark gold faceted studs. Walking suit from the early 1890s period. Very, very RARE. Bodice in good condition, was in the process of being created or resized and never finished. Very small size. Best for display. Dark brown very fine medium weight wool with thick braid work trim. This is finely tailored and form fitting. Very tiny slimline bustle skirt with a faux wrap appearance. Open side portion of skirt is adorned with brown shiny gold studs which are handsewn scattered down the side skirt. Corded silk is used for open section. Many studs missing. I have a small bag with some that have fallen off plus one wool covered button that came off the simple jacket. Bodice has gold round stud trim. Two large black hook and eye closure along back waistband. Ties for closure were hand sewn at the top of the skirt by the hooks. Herringbone thread work along waistband. Herringbone embroidery adds strength to waistlines of skirts. One small moth hole on skirt. Underskirt is lined with brown crunchy silk taffeta with pleated ruffle gathered and scalloped upper hand cut ruffle. Bustle skirt is very heavy. Bodice, as shown, is under construction or resizing. No notes were attached to the bodice. Needs Johnny collar reattached, Armcyce's and back upper bodice to collar. Collar right side of bodice crosses over to the left and has hook and eye closure. White Silk trim under ends of sleeves, hand-sewn thread loops are at open ends of sleeves with hook closure. Sleeves lined in plush brown silk fabric inside. Bodice lined with same fabric. Heavy boning. This is a Fall/Winter garment. Over jacket is lighter in weight so that it can be worn over the heavy bodice. Simple cut jacket with "Kick Up" sleeves which were popular from the late 1889 to 1892 period, after that the huge Balloon, Leg-O-Mutton and Russian Droop sleeves styles came into fashion. Jacket is highly tailored, long sleeves with flat metal wool covered buttons, two on each cuff inserted into hand stitched button holes. Inside of jacket lined in plush brown silk fabric. No maker label or Petersham on jacket. Notched pointed collar, front of jacket adorned with wool covered round shank buttons, Welt pockets at lower front, bodice punches in at the waistline and flares out at the bottom to fit over the bustle back of the skirt. Soft jacket, no boning. Very rare garment complete with all three pieces. Bodice needs the repairs as stated. I would have done the repairs, but, will leave that up to the new care taker. Jacket upper shoulder has two moth holes at upper left shoulder, simple stitch can close these. Small moth hole, very small at upper left back near Armcyces seam. Two tiny moth holes at lower mid back in seam. My eye's can't catch every hole, so my apologies if there are any hidden ones. Armcyce's are clean with no rot, stains or holes. All in all this three piece walking suit is in superb condition. Great antique clothing project. Sleeves are easy to reattach to the Armcyce's. Be sure to follow the thread line and keep them gathered. This is an AS IS sale. Parting out my very large collection. Shipping, due to the weight, has insurance included. All sales final. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. Thank you.
