Carol (Shupp) "Shuppie" Carol Shupp Sebold, 71, a renowned artist and Toledo native passed away June 7, 2010, as a result of complications from a recent surgery. Carol was a successful marine and landscape artist whose studio and residence were in Camden, Maine. Carol was born February 9, 1939. As a grade school student she attended classes at the Toledo Museum of Art on Saturday mornings. "Shuppie" was a 1957 DeVilbiss graduate and was inducted into the DeVilbiss Hall of Fame in 1988. After graduating from the University of Toledo, Carol taught at Libbey and Start high schools and in Ida, MI. In 1973 Carol moved to Camden to pursue her art career. She still had close ties to Toledo, visiting often and maintained a close relationship with her former classmates. Carol has donated her work to local charities such as Toledo Children's Hospital. Carol was a member of the American Society of Marine Artists and a former member of the Toledo Artists Club and has taught at the highly regarded Wooden Boat School and on several Maine windjammers. Though she taught workshops all over the U.S., her recent association with Crystal Cruise Lines allowed her to tour the world teaching and lecturing. Carol's primary medium was watercolor, but she also excelled in oils. Her work has been selected for many juried shows and is exhibited in several galleries throughout the eastern United States and the Caribbean. Numerous private and corporate collections both in America and abroad include her work.
